After pivoting from the world of live entertainment to the world of hospitality, the hits keep coming for restauranteur Larry Morrow, as he’s about to open his fourth restaurant in a little more than five years.
Morrow Steak and Seafood is coming soon to The Standard, a multi-use tower in the South Market development complex at 1001 Julia St., which straddles the Warehouse and Central Business districts. According to NOLA.com, the restaurant will feature an elevated dining experience that highlights steak and seafood, as indicated by its name. The restaurant space used to be home to the contemporary Mexican restaurant Otra Vez, a project from a Michelin-recognized chef that opened in April 2019.
For Morrow, it’s been a fast rise up the hospitality ladder after pivoting from being a live entertainment producer and promoter. He opened his first venture, called Morrow’s, with his mother Leonora Chong in 2018. That restaurant features food inspired by their shared Black and Korean heritage. In 2022, Morrow took over the former Trep’s in Mid-City and converted it to Monday Restaurant + Bar. In June 2023, Morrow opened the Asian-American restaurant Sun Chong at 240 Decatur St., which was named after his maternal grandmother. In addition to serving, Korean and Asian-inspired dishes, Sun Chong also features a hip-hop vibe that brings Morrow’s story full circle.
