Southern Classic Chicken Planning New Location in Baton Rouge

The Shreveport-based company is currently plotting a major expansion into Southern Louisiana.

The popular Southern Classic Chicken restaurant chain is planning a new location in Baton Rouge, according to a local developer. For now, the new restaurant is being held up by the need to rezone its potential location at 3410 South Sherwood Forest Blvd. The Baton Rouge Planning Commission is set to take up the matter at its June 17 meeting. Company representative and Southern Classic Chicken franchisee Nick Binnings recently told What Now New Orleans that the company has three units planned for Baton Rouge.

Southern Classic Chicken was founded in Shreveport in 1976 by Leon Fanning and his family continues to be active in running the company. There are currently 17 corporate stores, mostly centered around Shreveport and just across the Texas border. The is currently looking to expand, with a key focus on Southern Louisiana.
