Marco’s Pizza has more than 1,200 locations around the world but not a single location in Baton Rouge and only two locations in Southern Louisiana. That’s set to change this year with the opening of a new location at 9402 Burbank Dr. in Baton Rouge. Franchisee Ken Patel recently closed on the sale of the property and he plans to quickly start renovating the former Empire Wingz location. The building has been vacant since October. The only other current Marco’s locations in Southern Louisiana are in New Orleans and Slidell.
The story of Ohio-based Marco’s Pizza is one of rapid recent growth. After being founded in 1978, the company had less than 130 locations in 2004, compared to about tenfold that number today. In addition to its US locations, Marco’s Pizza also has locations in Puerto Rico and the Bahamas.
