Cigar aficionados in Baton Rouge may be getting another option, as a new cigar bar is being planned for 13707 Coursey Blvd., according to a rezoning application with the Baton Rouge Planning Commission. Owner Shawn Butt recently told What Now New Orleans that he was inspired to create the new cigar bar because, as a cigar fan, he felt there was a lack of options around the city.

“Right now, I drive at least 18 miles to get to the nearest cigar bar,” he said. “So I thought, let’s see if I can open another cigar lounge and give people more options in different locations.”

Should the rezoning application get approval, the new Cheers Cigar Lounge will feature a full bar, but food will not be available. According to a press release sent to What Now New Orleans, the bar will use premium spirits and fresh ingredients to make artisanal cocktails. Imported Dominican cigar from brands like Arturo Fuente will be for sale and the bar will also have authentic shisa tobacco. There will be live bands regularly playing jazz, blues and contemporary music, as well as art exhibitions and special theme nights. The goal, according to the press release, is to attract a mature, sophisticated clientele.
