After successfully running TaTa’s Wings Wine & Oyster Bar for many years, Treme entrepreneur Joe Davis is planning to open a takeout spot around the corner from his old restaurant that will feature barbecue, classic New Orleans foods, and daiquiris. Davis recently told What Now New Orleans that he owns the building and rents out the old TaTa’s space at 714 N. Claiborne Ave. to Bertha’s Kitchen. He decided to keep control of the building’s adjacent café space at 1620 Basin St. to open his neighborhood takeout spot, which will be called Treme Tobacco and Spirits.

“It’s going to be a little café, slash, daiquiri shop when people can come in and get their orders to go,” Davis said.

He said he’s currently working through permitting issues with the City of New Orleans and hopes to be open by the end of October.

“I’m trying to get it ready to roll because we got that Super Bowl coming right now,” he said.
