If you love Cajun cooking but wish there was a little more variety out there, Barry’s 1965 has got you. The new restaurant planned for Carencro in Lafayette Parish will offer modern spins on fried alligator, crawfish roulettes, fried turkey gizzards and more, according to a preview menu posted to the restaurant’s Facebook page. A signature dish will be rooster gumbo, made with slow-cooked chicken and a dark roux.
Co-owner Barry Reeves is a Southern Louisiana hospitality veteran and he’s bringing more than four decades of experience to his namesake restaurant, according to reports. In keeping with the cuisine, the décor at Barry’s will also be modern and relaxed. When it opens this fall, the new restaurant will be at 108 E St Peter St. in the former Swanky’s restaurant.
