With more than 900 locations in 50 countries, Häagen-Dazs is an ice cream behemoth. The name—which is purely invented and is meant to sound Danish in tribute to Denmark‘s support of Jews fleeing the Holocaust during World War II—is now one of the most recognized names in ice cream worldwide. Häagen-Dazs is sold from China to Argentina, to Norway, to Australia.
Now, Häagen-Dazs is preparing to launch a new ice cream shop in Sunny Isles Beach. Behind the location is franchisee Gloria Berlianshik, who shares a hometown (Brooklyn) with the ice cream brand and is now a Sunny Isles local.
Berlianshik says the new Häagen-Dazs is sorely needed in the area.
“Sunny Isles Beach has always been touristy,” Berlianshik told What Now on Tuesday. “People love the beach, of course, and it’s a beautiful neighborhood. But after COVID, a lot more people decided to live here. And what we realized is that in this whole city there is not one ice cream spot. On a sunny day on the beach, there’s nowhere to get ice cream. You would have to go to McDonald’s. So we were looking to open a place where we can all go. It’s a place for family, community, where you can join in with everyone.”
Häagen-Dazs’s ice cream comes in a wide variety of flavors—a few currently featured on the brand’s website included New York Strawberry Cheesecake, Vanilla Caramel Pecan, and Black & White Cookie—and for Berlianshik, it’s not just about the variety. It’s also about the quality.
“Häagen-Dazs is elite ice cream. It’s only five ingredients, not thirty or forty. So it’s only good, natural ingredients, and it’s Kosher too.”
The new Häagen-Dazs will open near the water at 16850 Collins Ave #111, joining restaurants like El Tropico Cuban Cuisine and Restaurante Área 57.
