Mahween Rahman and her family are bringing a Milanese restaurant franchise to 339 Greenwich Street next year. Rahman told What Now New York that they just got the keys to the space and plan to open Paper Moon Giardino hopefully in November or December of 2025.
Paper Moon opened in Milan in 1977. Now, it has outposts in various cities, including London and Istanbul. It used to have a location in New York on the Upper East Side, but that location closed decades ago.
Rahman and her family are also behind Beefbar in Tribeca, a franchise location they opened last year. They were drawn to the Paper Moon brand because of their own global experiences.
“We travel extensively, and Milan is one of the places we go all the time,” Rahman said. “So we’ve been to the restaurant for a couple of years now, and we thought it would be a good addition to the New York market.”
The location is a second-generation restaurant space, so Rahman expects construction to go smoothly. The Rockwell Group will be heading up the interior design.
“There are many Italian restaurants in the city, but we are planning to do a very original take on Italian food and it’s going to be a very elevated atmosphere,” Rahman said.
