According to Oaklandside, Jo’s Modern Thai at 3725 MacArthur Boulevard in Oakland — near establishments such as Domino’s Pizza, KFC, and Sequoia Diner — has temporarily shuttered.

“Jo’s Modern Thai owner Kao Saelee is under fire for laying off the front-of-house staff with little notice, asking them to reapply for their jobs under new requirements, and allegedly misleading other employees about the situation,” the Journal shares.

The closure also follows the departure of the eatery’s chef.

For readers who are unfamiliar with Jo’s Modern Thai, the eatery has been known as an “engaging and lively spot for Oakland natives and Bay Area residents to enjoy together in the Laurel district” — though it recently received attention for an open letter blog post titled “The Truth Behind Jo’s Modern Thai” that circulated due to claims of mismanagement.

The reopening date was formerly set for November 2 and then extended to November 10. It’s unclear when the eatery officially plans to begin service again.

Stay tuned for updates.
