According to Berkeleyside, Daytrip by Stella Dennig and Finn Stern is shuttering in mid-December, to be replaced by a new concept in 2025.

“The amount of care that we put into our menu requires so much work, so much effort. And that’s not sustainable in this economic landscape,” Dennig tells the Journal.

“Over the last year, our team worked so hard to shave back on different areas and tighten up the ship. In spite of really significant gains there, the increasing shrinkage of the top-line revenue just wasn’t enough to get us there,” she continues.

However, the owners aren’t letting go of the space just yet. The pair are discussing opening a new restaurant sometime next year.

“We’re thinking of having a counter service only model, kind of elevated, fast-casual, still a space that’s really vibey, really fun to be in that people are excited to go to with groups, with friends, family or on a date night,” Dennig said.

She continues, “The main pivot will be one that we think will be more what Oakland is asking for right now, in terms of being more everyday food — something that you could eat every week if not more than that, and that’s to-go friendly.”
