Terry Black’s BBQ is officially making its Houston debut with a location set for 1300 N Shepherd Dr in the Heights. The upcoming spot marks the brand’s sixth location, and its first in Houston, further cementing its reputation as one of Texas’ go-to destinations for authentic, old-school smoked meats.
For Co-Owner Mike Black, bringing Terry Black’s to Houston was always part of the plan. “Houston is such a vibrant city with such a great culture, we couldn’t help but be attracted to the city,” Black told What Now Houston. “As kids, we spent a lot of time in Houston, and as we created the Terry Black’s brand, we knew after a few years we wanted to open a location here; but we knew we wanted to do so much more in the city.”
This expansion will come with some exciting additions—a boutique hotel, a bathhouse, and a steakhouse—all planned for the same site as the new barbecue joint. Black and his team searched for years to find the right location before landing on the Heights. “This location in the Heights checked all of our internal requirements when buying real estate and, more importantly, it just felt right,” he explained.
As for the menu, fans of Terry Black’s can expect the same Central Texas market-style barbecue the brand is known for. “We stay true to our roots,” Black stated. “We don’t deviate from our original menu. We do what we do, and we do it to the best of our ability.”
While there’s no set opening date yet, Black estimates the Houston location will launch sometime in Quarter 2 of 2026, pending the completion of design, permitting, and construction.
