When he was younger, Giacomo Pisano worked at his uncle’s pizza spot, New York Pizza Suprema on Eighth Avenue. Now, Pisano is moving in right next door with his brand, G’s Cheesesteaks.
Pisano told What Now New York that he is aiming for a soft opening in March at the 1,900-square-foot space at 411 Eighth Avenue.
“When a spot became available next door to [my uncle], it all kind of fell into place,” Pisano said. “It was a full-circle moment.”
Pisano said he expects the spot to bring more attention to the brand because of its positioning near Madison Square Garden.
“It’s really going to give us the notoriety and [put us] in the big leagues in a sense because of where the location is,” Pisano said. “I think it’ll really put us on the map and be a catapult for everything coming in the near future.”
The new location will have about 24 seats and an open-kitchen layout, where customers can sit at the bar and watch the cooks. The design will be vibrant and bright, and the layout will be more open and intimate than some of the other locations, making it one of Pisano’s favorite layouts so far.
G’s Cheesesteaks serves burgers, tenders, wings, build-your-own steaks and more. The brand currently has two locations open in New Jersey and one in New York on the Lower East Side. It is expanding to new markets this year, starting with Dallas. Pisano said that he expects to open six new locations for G’s Cheesesteaks this year, including one in Naples, Fla., another in Pennsylvania and a sprinkling of locations across New Jersey and New York. The brand is also relocating in Staten Island after it closed its previous location there.
The spot on Eighth Avenue will be one of the initial steps for this larger expansion coming in 2025. Pisano also filed for a liquor license at the address this month.
“I grew up there,” Pisano said. “It’s very dear to my heart, so I’m just excited to be part of the community and start serving everybody.”
