The San Antonio-based burger chain Whataburger is planning on a new location in Raleigh at 4704 Yale Rd.
The company recently applied for an administrative site plan review with the Memphis and Shelby County Division of Planning and Development, according to the Memphis Business Journal. Project plans show a 3,300-square-foot building on the northeast corner of Yale and Austin Peay Highway. That property is owned by Glide Xpress Principal Group LLC. This will be the eighth Whataburger in the Memphis area, with more on the way.
The new proposed location proves the brand is popular in the Memphis area, considering the chain made its debut last year around this time. Whataburger started with two locations in Southaven, MS, followed by a location in Cordova and Memphis. The company is also opening a new site in Arlington by the end of the year. Whataburger also submitted plans to open a new location in Millington earlier this year.
This will be a perfect location for the proposed Whataburger. The new Raleigh site will be next to the Raleigh Springs Civic Center and Raleigh Public Library, which is across the street from the Raleigh Springs Market Place. Whataburger will hope to be the go-to burger spot in the area, with Bojangles and Popeyes nearby and a McDonald’s and Burger King down on Austin Peay Highway.
