After coming to an agreement last year, Chick-fil-A looks to finally start construction on its newest site in the Lake District, located at I-40 and Canada Road.
The national chicken chain announced an agreement to open a location in the $400 million mixed-used development in December of 2022. However, the delay has been longer than anticipated due to an existing agreement with Starbucks, according to Lakeland Currents. Chick-fil-A had to first come to an agreement with Starbucks, which has exclusive rights to sell coffee on “property that fronts Canada Road.” The new Chick-fil-A will be the largest in Shelby County.
While the Lakeland Land Development Regulations permits a maximum of 79 spaces, Chick-fil-A successfully obtained a variance from the Lakeland Board of Appeals for an additional 13 spaces. There will also be multiple spaces on the south side of the property reserved exclusively for pickup orders. There is no exact opening date, but considering construction is expected to begin this month, it will take several months before completion.
“The agreement has been signed with Starbucks clearing Chick-fil-A for coffee sales.” Yehuda Netanel, the developer of The Lake District, told the Lakeland Currents last month. “With the agreement in hand, Chick-fil-A says they anticipate starting construction sometime in the middle of September, depending on weather and some other factors,”
