Austin cinema chain, Alamo Drafthouse, will open a new location in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. This latest addition will open in Grand Prairie and join six other theaters that are currently open and operating within the area.
The forthcoming Grand Prairie location is one of seven new theaters that the brand is planning to open over the next few years. Other cities include Arlington, VA; Birmingham, AL; Chicago, IL; Glendale, CO; Staten Island, NY; and St. Louis, MO.
“We’re so thankful for the continued strength and recovery of the theater industry thanks to a packed slate of titles in 2022,” said Alamo Drafthouse CEO Shelli Taylor in a press release. “And we’re very eager to bring the unique Alamo Drafthouse experience to Chicago, St. Louis, Birmingham and beyond.”
Founded in 1997 in Austin, Alamo Drafthouse has grown into a nationwide cinema chain dubbed “the best theater in America” by Entertainment Weekly and “the best theater in the world” by Wired. After filing for bankruptcy in 2021 and closing three locations due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it seems the brand has refound its footing and is in a good place to expand.
Alamo Drafthouse in Grand Prairie is from franchise partner Alamo Grand Prairie Bardin, LLC. With 10 screens, it will also feature luxury recliners and high-tech surround sound. The theater will offer a full-service bar with craft cocktails, wine, and local beers on tap.
Alamo Drafthouse in Grand Prairie is expected to open in early 2024.
