A popular fried chicken restaurant that has several spots across Texas is cooking up a Dallas location.
Coming to 5456 E Mockingbird Ln, The Cookshack will open in Fall 2022. The 3,410 square foot space in Mockingbird Central Plaza was previously home to BurgerFi, a “better burger” restaurant chain that closed permanently.
The Cookshack currently has five locations open in the Lone Star State – College Station, Fort Worth, Houston, McAllen, and Webster. Along with the forthcoming Dallas location, three more are opening soon in Katy (Summer 2022), San Antonio (Summer 2022), and Spring (July 2022).
The brand, which likes to keep things spicy, specializes in fried chicken and ribs. There are five different heat levels for guests to choose from – not hot, mild, medium, Texas hot, and AMF (adios my friend). Using only all-natural, hormone free chicken, your chosen heat level can be experienced as tenders, a sandwich, or tacos. There’s also chicken and waffles, salads, family meals called “shack packs” and kids meals called “shack bites”.
Sides include French fries, mac n cheese, and cole slaw. The Cookshack’s dipping sauce variety includes sweet heat, ranch, honey mustard, BBQ, and buffalo. Aunt Peggy’s ice cream sandwich is for dessert. And to close it out, the drink selection includes lemonade, iced tea, beer (including a brew called Cock-a-doodle that’s especially made for The Cookshack), margaritas, and wine.
The Cookshack has been voted best fried chicken in Houston (twice!) and featured in Texas Monthly. So, we’ve obviously been missing out. But not for much longer!
