Sundance Square in Downtown Fort Worth will gain a couple of new concepts from the owners of 3rd Street Market. Trent Shaskan and wife, Dena Peterson Shaskan, who was the chef at The Modern for more than a decade, are currently planning these concepts: Hopscotch and Wines from A Broad.
The first concept, Hopscotch, will open in the space of a former Jamba Juice at 101 West 3rd Street in Downtown Fort Worth. “We’ll have, at any one time, four mixed drinks and frozen drinks,” Trent said. Hopscotch will also offer wine and beer, plus fun drinks, pastries, and snacks.
“It’s wonderful. It’s needed where people on the Square can come get a tasty beverage for themselves and their children,” Trent told What Now Dallas. Local bakeries such as Loft22 Cakes will be highlighted, and the drinks and snacks will change seasonally.
“We’ll have Mexican-style fruit and veggie cups,” Trent said. Snow cones, frozen lemonades, and popcorn could be on the menu in the summer, plus hot chocolate for both kids and an “adult” hot chocolate for those of drinking age in the winter.
Hopscotch is going to be about 900-square-feet, but patio seating around three sides of the storefront will provide outdoor space to enjoy a cocktail and the sights and sounds of Downtown.
“It’s almost like a snack bar for kids and adults,” Dena said about Hopscotch. They are still working on licensing. Dena said they hope to open sometime in the spring of 2023, possibly in late March.
Wines from A Broad is still in the conceptual process. The shop will feature wines from woman-owned vineyards and female winemakers, as well as from underrepresented populations.
“I decided I wanted to do this. I knew it was going to be a wine store, and then I decided I am going to make it focused on female and people of color wines, but I have a lot of research to do,” Dena told What Now Dallas. Dena still needs to have discussions with the city and the health department to determine the possibilities of the space. “It’s going to be a wine shop with tastings and nibbles.”
Wines from A Broad will be located in a historic building at 317 Houston St., just a block or so from Hopscotch. Dena said she’s unsure what type of food Wines from A Broad might offer because of the current space. If food is available, she explained, it will be prepared at 3rd Street Market and could include charcuterie boxes. Wines from A Broad could open in early summer of 2023.
