A unique restaurant concept featuring Tex-Ethiopian barbecue is moving into a larger space in Arlington. Smoke’N Ash BBQ first opened on Matlock Rd. in Arlington in 2018 after doing barbecue pop-ups on the weekends. They added an Ethiopian menu and combined the two in 2020.
“We outgrew our current location, and we definitely need the kitchen space,” said Fasicka Hicks, Smoke’N Ash BBQ owner. The new space at 5904 S. Cooper St., #110 in Arlington is just over 3,600-square-feet, according to a recent project filing. The space will undergo renovations before opening to the public, possibly sometime in early summer.
The new location will also feature the addition of a full bar. Fasicka told What Now Dallas they are unable to serve alcohol at the current location because of a nearby daycare.
Fasicka owns Smoke’N Ash BBQ with her husband Patrick Hicks. He is a native Texan, and she was born in Ethiopia. Fasicka said they will most likely shut down the current location for about two weeks as they travel oversees to purchase ingredients before moving into the new space.
The menu features a variety of dishes from ribs, brisket, smoked chicken, and sausage to Kay Siga Wat, which is spicy beef stew, and Loaded Injera Nachos. “We were told that we are the only restaurant that serves Ethiopian-style barbecue in the world. That makes it unique. We import all our spices from Ethiopia to combine with the Texas-style of smoking. I think that’s really unique and exceptional,” Fasicka said.
They are very excited about the move. “I know it’s going to be really good,” Fasicka said. “There are a lot of good things going for us right now, and we’re working on books. We have so many good things that are coming up as projects once this one is wrapped up.”
