Starbucks’ global expansion goals are in full effect, and Colorado Springs is part of the initiative. City permits were filed proposing a 2226-square-foot drive-through store be built at 7672 Barnes Rd., on the corner of Antelope Ridge Drive.

The location where the coffee house will be located positions Starbucks to capitalize on high traffic counts near Peterson AFB. The proposed retail center caters to various business types, including gas stations, dining establishments, fast-food outlets, convenience stores, and more.

Starbucks announced an expansion plan in November to reach 55,000 locations globally by 2030, adding 17,000 stores globally in the next six years. Seventy-five percent of those will be international locations. The company opened 816 in Q4 of last year.

The 10-acre Willowind retail center is owned by Doubletree Ventures, which is doing a great deal of development on the land. There are also nearly 500 apartment and townhouse units planned to be built across the street.
