Wake & Late, voted as one of the best places in Los Angeles to get a breakfast burrito, is expanding to a second location in Santa Monica, located at 411 Santa Monica Blvd.
The newest restaurant will replace the former home of Mainland Poke in mid-to-late 2022. The new 2,286 square-foot Wake & Late moves into a handful of properties that were recently burned down. Founders Alex Sauciuc, Ben Richter, and John Shoemaker started the breakfast burrito company five years ago after attending Duke University together. Richter tells What Now Los Angeles the new Wake & Late will feature several changes compared to the original location at 105 E. 6th St., but he could not go into details.
The company will announce this location, as well as a few other plans, later this year. Last year, Wake & Late reopened their original location with a new look to improve operations. The restaurant added a takeout window, a small dining area with 18 seats for patrons, a standing bar, and a patio. To expand their presence through Los Angeles, the company also partnered with Postmates for delivery, significantly increasing their popularity.
When the restaurant finally does open, customers can expect to find all of the delicious breakfast burritos that made the independent restaurant stand out. The original Wake & Late features several vegetarian burritos plus a handful of meat options, such as the O.G. with tater tots, eggs, bacon, avocado, cheddar, cotija, and a side of cilantro crema. The mainly A.M. eatery also has several morning drinks to help customers wake up, such as coffee and juice.
