Amazon Retail, like to be either an Amazon Fresh or Amazon Go, is coming to West Covina, located at 2539 E Garvey Ave N.
A recent liquor license from the company suggests one of the retailers will be moving into what was once a Lincoln Mercury Mazda dealership. The auto center has since been torn down to make room for the fast-growing Amazon storefronts. This will likely be an Amazon Fresh, considering Amazon Go’s are only found in Seattle, Chicago, San Francisco, and New York. If so, This will become the 12th Amazon Fresh in California, all of which are in Los Angeles County except Fullerton, La Habra, and Irvine. It’s unknown when this new retailer will open.
Amazon Fresh first debuted at Woodland Hills in 2020, and now over 22 additional stores can be found in California, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Washington, and more. The company recently opened a 10th Amazon Fresh in La Habra, becoming just the sixth Amazon grocery store to have Just Walk Out Technology. This technology uses an overhead computer vision camera and weight sensors to allow shoppers to shop freely without going through a checkout line. By picking up any item and adding it to your cart, the virtual cart will track all products added to removed from the cart.
Once ready to checkout, customers walk out after using the QR code in the Amazon mobile app, scanning their palm on the Amazon One palm signature device, or inserting a credit/debit card linked to their Amazon account. For those interested in this new grocery store concept but don’t want to bother with any of the technology, there will still be traditional checkout lanes staffed by employees. These same employees can also be found throughout the store if anyone needs assistance. There is no word if this new Amazon Retail will feature the Just Walk Out Technology.
