Detroit Vesey’s, the community-centered cycling cafe, is looking to relocate from its current location in Downtown Los Angeles at 2028 E 7th St.
The restaurant proudly supporting the LGBTQ+ and cycling community is officially looking for a new home following the pandemic. Owner/ chef Erin Detroit Vesey recently launched a GoFundMe to make this possible for the small business, which opened in November 2021. Vesey’s GoFundMe goal is currently set at a quarter of a million dollars, hoping to move to a new location that has the licenses to serve delicious alcoholic beverages. On top of donating money, the campaign lists several other ways to support the business.
“Unfortunately, despite all the love, the pandemic had created so many unforeseen obstacles draining us of precious resources that we might not survive the year,” according to the GoFundMe. “In addition to the toll of the pandemic in those early months of being open and unbelievable never-ending delays from the city drained us of tens of thousands of dollars that we were going to put towards getting our liquor license which would help our bottom line greatly, so we can stay open.”
Although Detroit Vesey’s hasn’t been open for an entire year, it has become well-known within the LGBTQ+ community, often hosting several drag brunches or other events. The food itself has gained some recognition in the past few months it has been open. Eater LA classified the restaurant as “One of the 15 Hottest Restaurants in LA,” while LAist has claimed their drag shows are “One of the Best Things to do in LA.” No matter where Detroit Vesey’s ends up, it will bring even more delicious food and inclusivity to the neighborhood.
