Alongside the Wetzel’s Pretzel’s founders, Bicos Hospitality — the restaurant group responsible for Gus’s BBQ, Magnolia House, and The Original Tops — will soon open a new concept called Taco Social (stylized TACO/SOCIAL) at 1627 Colorado Boulevard in LA’s Eagle Rock neighborhood.
Per a recent job ad seeking to staff the incoming eatery, “Taco Social is Eagle Rock’s newest restaurant concept that’s taking an eclectic approach to one of Los Angeles’s main staples — tacos! Complete with a full bar and an upbeat atmosphere, Taco Social is set to be a funky, fast-casual meet-up spot.”
Taco Social’s website did not provide additional details except that the restaurant’s taco offerings will be “freeform.”
The Colorado Boulevard space was formerly Eagle Rock Public House, a brewpub concept that shuttered its doors in 2020 after pandemic-related struggles.
“[Ting] Su and [Jeremy] Raub first opened the brewpub in late 2014 along busy Colorado Boulevard in Eagle Rock as a restaurant offshoot of their popular craft beer brewery nearby,” explains Eater LA. “But as with many restaurants around Southern California, the ongoing coronavirus pandemic has taken a heavy toll, so now the pair have decided to throw in the towel.”
Thankfully, backed by two strong industry players, Taco Social has a fighting chance at thriving on the lively corner, especially as the effects of the pandemic slowly melt away, once again showcasing LA’s undying fervor for dining out on good grub — especially tacos.
