Bub and Grandma’s, a well-known local bread company that offers loaves, sandwiches, donuts, and pie, is getting ready to open a new concept in Highland Park at 5101 York Blvd.

Owner Andy Kadin plans to open his latest concept, Bub and Grandma’s Pizza, in the former home of Town Pizza, which closed on Saturday, September 7, according to Eater Los Angeles. The new concept will replace the decade-old pizza parlor sometime next year, offering 18-inch New York-style pies with various toppings, available by the slice and whole pies to-go. These pizzas will be inspired by some of the pizza shops Kadin experienced when he lived and grew up in New Jersey and New York.

This will be an excellent location for the new concept, sitting next to Donut Friend within the fast-changing Highland Park. Bub and Grandma’s Pizza will have a 3,000-square-foot dining room perfect for in-house dining. The new concept will also have beer and wine, as well as Town Pizza’s beloved photo booth. This is a massive achievement for the East Coast native, considering he started making bread from his Mt. Washington home in 2015 using Town Pizza’s ovens to bake loaves in the early days. Eventually, Kadin expanded the wholesale bakery to the Hollywood and Culver City farmers markets, which was followed by the opening of Bub and Grandma’s Restaurant & Bakery in Glassell Park in 2022.

“We are trying to make the best crust possible,” Kadin tells Eater Los Angeles. “It’ll have a nice crunch on the exterior, but be very airy in the center, leoparded on the bottom, and the pizza will hold up on its own. It’s important to me that what we’re doing on this side of town is authentic and real, and not bullshit and not a money grab. It’s about making sure that we have an authentic connection with our customers and make sure that they’re satisfied with what we’re bringing them.”
