After finding great success with Holy Basil, a local business owner is preparing to debut a new concept called Yhing Yhang BBQ at 4301 W Jefferson Boulevard in Los Angeles.
Previously, What Now Los Angeles reported on Chef Deau Arpapornnopparat expanding Holy Basil throughout Los Angeles, including in Atwater and an upcoming location coming to Santa Monica. While the latter is still expected to open later this year, the chef and his partner, Tongkamal “Joy” Yuon, are planning a new concept: Yhing Yhang BBQ. The restaurant is set to open within Maydan Market in West Adams in Spring 2025, according to Eater Los Angeles. Yhing Yhang BBQ means “more grill” in Thai.
In a few months, customers can anticipate a new menu featuring roasted duck curry, grilled chicken thighs, beef short ribs, grilled pork, garlic egg noodles, fried prawn balls, and fried banana strips. Arpapornnopparat plans to offer these grilled meats, typically sold by the pound, for takeaway or on-site dining, similar to options in Thailand. Inspired by Texas barbecue, he aims to balance tangy, acidic, and sweet flavors. The lunch menu will focus on freshly chopped grilled meats, while duck curry will be made with smoked duck marinated in five-spice.
Yhing Yhang BBQ should see great success inside Maydan Market, which is owned by restauranteur Rose Previte. The concept was built around the hearth at the center of the Maydan market space, making it highly accessible. Other tenants set for the development include Lugya’h, an Oaxacan stand from Poncho’s Tlayudas chef Alfonso “Poncho” Martinez. The market will host Previte’s Michelin-starred restaurant Maydan, a West Coast location of Compass Rose, and three other new restaurants that have yet to be announced.
