According to a recently submitted alcohol license application, the Oakland-based concept Yummy Yummy Hibachi plans to debut a new brick-and-mortar spot in the city.
Coming to 3920 Piedmont Avenue, the eatery will land near establishments such as Cato’s Ale House, Commis, and The Wolf.
The restaurant’s owner, Jose Rodriguez, tells What Now San Francisco a little about the history of Yummy Yummy, sharing, “We’ve been in business for five years… we have a location out in San Leandro and a food truck out in Oakland.”
He shares that when the business was started, “the word started spreading between friends, so we decided to make an Instagram page, and within a week we had 800 followers… people were curious. At the time, we were cooking from home… it was me, my brother, and my mother just cooking up plates for ourselves and our friends.”
He continues, “When we got our food truck, it made a big impact, the whole city really came out and supported us, we were raised on 73rd and that’s where the truck is, because that’s where we’re from.”
Rodriguez says that besides the addition of a sushi bar, the menu will stay the same and that locals can look forward to a variety of hibachi burrito options — a menu item that the eatery invented and became known for back in 2020, with Instagram posts as proof.
Yummy Yummy Hibachi on Piedmont Avenue is slated to open before the end of May. Stay tuned for updates.
