A brand new restaurant called 3rd & Fernwood is preparing to debut later this year in Charlotte’s Midtown, located at 1100 Metropolitan Avenue, Suite 170.

This is the newest concept from the BayHaven Restaurant Group, led by husband and wife restaurateurs Greg and Subrina Collier, according to Q City Metro. 3rd & Fernwood is expected to open by Thanksgiving 2023, featuring 5,200 square feet of indoor and outdoor seating, plus a speakeasy. The restaurant group has tapped Cleophus Hethington as the new executive chef.

While the menu is still being finalized, the menu will be influenced by food from Africa, Brazil, and the Caribbean. Despite the menu being developed, a few items are considered serious contenders, including a chicken thigh sandwich that will be served with hot sauce caramel, mayonnaise, house-made pickles, and a grilled catfish served with roasted okra gravy. Some potential sides from the restaurant include macaroni and cheese, creamed collard greens, turnips, and more.

“We aim to delve into the foodways of the African diaspora and its connection to the American South,” Greg Collier tells Q City Metro. “In doing so, we will take on a fresh but elevated perspective that acknowledges the substantial influence of the South and its culinary traditions, specifically the renowned ‘meat and three’ meals.”

3rd & Fernwood will be open from 11 am to 3 pm until eventually expanding hours to 8 pm. Other restaurants from BayHaven Restaurant Group include Bird is the Word, Beyond Amazing Donuts, Leah and Louise, and Uptown York. In addition to providing Charlotte with some of the area’s best restaurants, the group hosts the BayHaven Food & Wine Festival.
