The owners of Foothills Local Meats have announced plans to open a new restaurant-bar concept called The Overlook in Downtown Black Mountain at 128 Broadway St.

The company, led by Amanda and Casey McKissick, is currently renovating the historic ice house of Black Mountain in hopes of opening in Spring 2024, according to an announcement made on social media. Customers can expect panoramic views of the mountains on a 1,700-square-foot rooftop patio with an upscale bar menu and chef-driven small plates. The new concept will help serve The Grange, which will offer food options in March.

“Our intention with this expansion is to build a custom kitchen on the floor level that will better service Grange customers — especially on busy days when our little food truck has a hard time keeping up with demand,” according to the announcement. “When the renovation is complete, it will create a more efficient system at the Grange, which we feel our customers will appreciate. As with all of our restaurants, this menu will be directly inspired by the local, pasture-raised meat from our butcher shop.”

The couple opened The Grange in September of 2022, offering a family-friendly venue serving their signature burgers and hot dogs. Not expecting so much business from food, the couple led to the 160-square-foot food truck that services the venue. When the new concept opens in a few months, it will allow the company to bring back some more elevated dishes, while The Grange will be a place for kids, family, date nights, and special occasions. The Overlook will be a separate restaurant from the Grange.

“Black Mountain has been so good to us,” Casey tells The Valley Echo. “We started 21 years ago at a little farmers market right over there. We now have a commercial property in the middle of downtown. I think that’s a small-town success story. Our kids grew up here, and while we live in Old Fort, we’ve spent much more time in Black Mountain. We’ve shared a lot of great moments with these other business owners and families over the past few years, and we have customers who have been with us for a long time. We’re choosing to do this because this is our hometown.”
