Bird Pizzeria, the beloved pizza shop found in Optimist Park, is getting ready to expand to a larger space next door at 512 E 15th Street.
Co-owners Nkem and Kerrel Thompson plan to move the eatery into the former home of Coast To Coast Tattoo, according to the Charlotte Observer. When the duo moves the business next door, customers will notice indoor seating space, which Bird Pizzeria isn’t offering at its current location. The move also allows the owners to provide more goods and become a communal space. The new location is expected to open sometime next month.
“We prayed about this space,” Nkem tells the CharlotteFive. We’re just like, ‘Man, this would be amazing to not have to pick up our stuff and go to a new location.’ We’re really excited to open our dining room literally as if it were, you know, an extension of our house. Now we’ll have room for you to stay a while.’
It’s unclear what else the restaurant will offer with the extra space, but it will continue to serve its simplistic menu, which features a kale salad, whole pies, and various toppings. Bird Pizzeria offers three different pizza options: tomato sauce white with ricotta, garlic butter, and olive oil, or vegan, made with aged cheese alternatives. All toppings range from $1 to $3. The expansion proves impressive for the Thompsons, considering the concept began as a pop-up in the Charlotte area.
