The Improper Pig, a fusion barbecue restaurant in Fort Mill and Rea Farms, is preparing to open a new site in Charlotte at 1600 Central Ave.

The company’s third location is set to replace The Pizza Peel & Tap Room in Plaza Midwood, which is closing after May 11 after a decade in business, according to the Charlotte Observer. There is no exact timeline for the new Improper Pig, but this isn’t the first time the Stomp Chomp & Roll restaurant group has shifted concepts in the area. In 2022, the company closed the Pizza Peel in Matthews to replace it with a Flying Biscuit Cafe the following year.

“After ten great years serving our local Plaza Midwood community, The Pizza Peel Plaza Midwood will be closing its doors,” according to an announcement on social media. “This Saturday, May 11, will be our last day of service in Plaza Midwood. We are profoundly grateful to all of our loyal customers for your support over the years. While this chapter is ending, we look forward to our new sister restaurant concept, the Improper Pig, opening soon with an exciting new menu to explore. We love you, Plaza Midwood, and can’t wait for this next adventure.”

While the restaurant group is closing this location of The Pizza Peel & Tap Room, the other location in Otswold at 4422 Colwick Road remains open. When the Improper Pig takes over in the coming weeks, customers can expect some delicious sandwiches, burgers, appetizers, salads, and meat entrees. An example of this restaurant’s variety can be found in the Improper Charcuterie board, featuring 3oz Pulled pork, 3oz sliced brisket, 6oz andouille sausage, and four St. Louis-style ribs. Served with warm pimento cheese, house chips, house slaw, pickled onions, and two hush puppies
