A second location of a relatively new concept is already in the works in Clayton. Aaktun Coffee + Bar plans to occupy 401 E. Main St., formerly home to Crawford Cookshop, according to the Triangle Business Journal.

Aaktun Coffee + Bar opened in Durham last fall, as previously reported by What Now Charlotte. The Mezcalito Group and chef Oscar Diaz are behind the concept, which combines a coffee shop, restaurant and bar experience. The Aaktun website describes it as “a casual, comfort-food-forward eatery showcasing culinary and beverage artistry unlike any other.”

The spot offers a tiki-inspired dining experience at night, and the design is modern while also offering nods to original features of the space.

“Our captivating Tiki-inspired cocktails shine alongside fanciful small and large-format dishes, all of which are an unapologetic display of our team’s vivacious imaginations,” the Aaktun Coffee + Bar website states. “Step into the world of Aaktun and leave the hustle and bustle of everyday life at the door – we’ll take care of the rest.”

The Clayton location is expected to open in the coming weeks, though an exact opening date remains unknown.

What Now Charlotte reached out to the Aaktun team for further information but had yet to hear back before the time of publication.
