Massachusetts-based ice cream brand Scoop N Scootery is venturing into the Charlotte market. Franchise owner Patrick Knorring has plans to open a 1,390-square-foot location at 2135 Thrift Road in Wesley Heights. Knorring told What Now Charlotte that he recently signed the lease and is targeting a May or June opening for the store.

Knorring became familiar with the Scoop N Scootery brand in 2021 when living in Somerville, Mass. He was drawn to the ice cream options, as well as the ice cream delivery model in the Scoop N Scootery brand — an element that he could not find locally when he moved to Charlotte in 2022.

“I had always been a fan and knew it would be a really good fit in Charlotte, so I reached out,” Knorring said.

The location in Charlotte will offer outdoor seating, picnic tables and a fun interior design.

“It’s a cool vibe,” Knorring said. “The ice cream stores all have cool artwork on the walls and play loud music, and there’s a good group of people working behind the counter to make large, delicious ice cream sundaes.”

The location will also allow much of the Charlotte Metropolitan area to order ice cream from Scoop N Scootery for delivery. Knorring said they can deliver within a 12-mile radius of the store.

“I’m excited about the location,” Knorring said. “We have some great neighbors and the neighborhood is growing pretty well.”

Founder Austin Crittenden launched Scoop N Scootery in Massachusetts in 2014. The brand has three locations in Massachusetts in Arlington, Allston and Cambridge, and it is currently looking to franchise to other markets in the U.S. It is known for signature ice cream sundae creations like The Funky Monkey and Peanut Butter Mudslide, as well as its build-your-own sundae options.

Knorring has plans for more stores in the Charlotte market, with a goal of three or four in the coming years. He is excited to share what the Scoop N Scootery franchise has to offer with the people of Charlotte.

“I told Austin the first time I met him that I might have been their No. 1 customer, and if not, I was their most consistent,” Knorring said. “These ice cream sundaes are delicious. They’re like nothing anyone has ever seen before, and they’re enormous. It’s the type of ice cream sundae where our small is the next guy’s large. So we’re giving you a ton of ice cream with all these toppings, and it’s delicious.”
