Shipley Do-Nuts has entered the Charlotte market, opening its first North Carolina location last week in an 1,800-square-foot space at 31 Optical Ct. N.W. in Concord. Now, there are more locations on the way to the Charlotte area.

Husband and wife John and Lillian Brijeski are the franchise owners for the Charlotte location.

“After trying Shipley Do-Nuts for the first time in South Carolina, we agreed they were delicious and that we needed to bring the world’s greatest do-nuts to the residents of North Carolina,” Brijeski said in a previous release. “We also fell in love with the company and the Shipley story after our visit to Houston to explore the opportunity to open locations of our own. We love the Do-Happy motto and want to spread that theme throughout the Charlotte area.”

Shipley, launched in 1936 in Houston, is known for selling a wide variety of doughnuts, as well as coffee, kolaches and some other pastry items. The brand is currently franchising to new markets and has more than 330 locations, according to the Shipley franchising website.

The Brijeskis have plans to open multiple units in the area. A company spokesperson told the Charlotte Business Journal that there are five locations in the works for the Charlotte market, though locations are still being selected and the spots are in the early stages of development.

What Now Charlotte connected with Lillian in a phone call. She said that so far, the Shipley brand has been well-received in Charlotte and confirmed plans for future expansion.

Shipley is also looking to franchise in other areas of North Carolina, including the Triad and the Raleigh-Durham area.
