Another Sweetgreen is heading to North Carolina, this time targeting Chapel Hill. The fast-casual health food chain has filed permits to open a 2,821-square-foot restaurant at 122 E. Franklin St., according to reporting by the Triangle Business Journal.
The Los Angeles-based chain has been making its way into North Carolina, with plans for expansion in both Charlotte and the Triangle. With one location already open in Uptown Charlotte and another in Raleigh’s North Hills, there are also locations on the way to Birkdale Village and Plaza Midwood in Charlotte. They are expected to open this year.
This location would be the fifth for the brand in North Carolina.
Sweetgreen is known for its health-driven mission of bringing “fresh, plant-forward, earth friendly food” to the masses. Menu items include protein plates, bowls such as the Chicken Pesto Parm and the Chicken Avocado Ranch bowls, and salads such as Hummus Crunch and Super Green Goddess.
Jonathan Neman, Nathaniel Ru and Nicolas Jammet launched the brand in Washington, D.C., in 2007 after noticing a gap in the market for healthy fast-casual options. They set out to reimagine fast-casual food, and the chain has since expanded to more than 200 locations.
As of now, it is unclear when the new location for Sweetgreen will open in Chapel Hill. Construction is still to come on the location.
