Existing 51-year-old reptile house to get $10 million+ upgrade.

Zoo Atlanta is moving forward with plans to build a new Reptile Center at its Grant Park home.

The Zoo submitted a building permit application with City of Atlanta Friday to build a 14,956-square-foot building from the ground up.

An estimated $10,875,000 will be spent building the new commercial structure.

Zoo Atlanta has been campaigning to raise $25.7 million to fund the new amphibian and reptile center, among other improvements. The new center will replace the existing 1960s-era reptile house.
