A charming neighborhood wine bar in West Newton is set to expand its hours and enhance its offerings, transforming into a cozy daytime café.

Located at 1284 Washington St, Flora’s café will be open from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., offering pastries and baked goods from NaisLee Catering, a local favorite situated just behind the bar (formerly L’Aroma Café & Bakery).

Loyal patrons of Flora’s Wine Bar can rest easy—its welcoming evening ambiance, complete with specialty wines, cocktails, and charcuterie boards, will continue to flow from 4 to 11 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.

“We’ll close informally between 2 and 4 for the transition, but we’ll always make time for anyone who drops by,” assured co-owner Andrew Li, who operates the establishment with lead bartender Corey Fletcher.

In addition to the sweet treats, the café menu will feature a hearty mix of salads and sandwiches, complemented by specialty coffee sourced primarily from local roaster Atomic Coffee.

“We have a great team coming in to put together some really nice specialty coffee drinks,” remarked Andrew. “The West Newton neighborhood has been looking for something like that since L’Aroma closed… You can’t find reasonable coffee until you get to Newtonville or Auburndale, so we’re very excited and the community is very excited.”

Andrew and Corey founded The Beer Mobile, a full-service craft beer and liquor truck, in 2016. Flora’s later launched in 2020, braving the challenges of the pandemic. “We opened just before COVID, so we’ve had all these ups and downs. We’ve adapted. This is a new step in our journey and we’re super excited,” Andrew said.

With a grand opening tentatively scheduled for December 1, 2024, Flora’s café hopes to bring warmth to the neighborhood just in time for the holiday season. For the latest buzz and brews, be sure to follow Flora’s on Facebook and Instagram.
