In early 2024, What Now Boston reported that a beloved East Boston favorite, which closed during the pandemic, would soon return. Now, additional details have emerged, including a new name and the addition of a full bar.

Italian Express Pizzeria will soon reopen as Eastie Bar + Italian Express Kitchen in the same 336 Sumner St space, according to several social media updates from the business. “Big things are happening,” wrote owners Jonathan Harker and Jim Iannuzzi.

Featured on Guy Fieri’s Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives in 2012, Italian Express Pizzeria was known for its fresh, Italian cuisine, including pizzas, pastas, sandwiches, salads, and seafood.

Eastie Bar + Italian Express Kitchen will be a reimagined venue featuring some swanky upgrades, including a private patio, a new pizza menu, exciting food additions, and, of course, a bar.

While the grand reopening was initially planned for mid to late 2024, Eastie Bar + Italian Express Kitchen is now expected to launch in the summer of 2025. For the latest updates, follow the eatery on social media @italianexpresskitchen and the bar @eastiebar.
