According to a recently submitted permit application, a new Mexican steakhouse is coming to San Antonio’s Lower Southeast Side late next year.

Building a restaurant from the ground up at 4427 E Southcross, El Tequilero Mexican Steakhouse will neighbor establishments such as Express Pharmacy, Nuevo Kork, and Taqueria Los Potrillos.

What Now San Antonio reached out to El Tequilero’s owner, Arlene Sanchez, to inquire about the upcoming eatery, but she could not provide additional information before publication.

Nevertheless, the filing offers further insight.

Site work and construction of the 4,000-square-foot commercial building is estimated to cost $300,000 — slated to begin on November 1 and be completed by August 2024.

While plans for the menu have not been disclosed, based on the name, it’s safe to assume that locals can expect to find classic Mexican plates and grilled steak at the restaurant.

An opening date has not yet been announced, so stay tuned for updates.
