A local French crêperie is cooking up a new location, and they plan to lean into the savory side.

The team behind The Galloping Galette is bringing their new store to Dacula. Viviane and Yannick Fonfrede, a French couple who moved to Georgia in 2016, opened the flagship location of the concept in Braselton in October 2017.

The shop serves authentic sweet crêpes and galettes, which are essentially savory crêpes made with buckwheat. The menu offers a build-your-own option in addition to daily specials and a lineup of signature items, like the La Caramel crêpe (butter, sugar, vanilla ice cream, homemade caramel and almonds) or the La Terroir galette (sausage, creamed mushrooms and mozzarella).

While the flagship location of The Galloping Galette has emerged as a specialty brunch and lunch spot, the Dacula location will focus more on being a dinner destination. The menu items will still feature the galette as a basis, but with more meat and seafood options for a heartier experience.

Operating hours would be 5 to 9 p.m., and they plan to start with four nights a week – Wednesday to Saturday – before possibly extending their hours.

The Galloping Galette aims to highlight French cuisine, particularly the types of ingredients and flavors you would find in northwest France. But they also envision expanding to different types of cuisine and varieties. The Galloping Galette in Braselton has featured specials inspired by chicken fajitas, beef tacos and cheeseburgers.

“As long as it’s good food, the taste is all that matters to us,” Viviane Fonfrede said.

The Galloping Galette is aiming to open in Dacula by the end of September.
