Addition to include 20,000 square feet of new classroom space and other upgrades.

The Atlanta Board of Education is moving forward with plans to expand Inman Middle School, at 774 Virginia Avenue NE.

The school system officials submitted a building permit application to City of Atlanta Friday for commercial land development at the site of the expansion.

The proposed addition would add approximately 20,000 square feet on two levels (12,000 square feet to the foot print) on the east side of the building, according to the school’s website.

The space would allow for seven new classrooms, two “health” classrooms, one technology lab, renovations to the existing band room, additional bleachers in the gymnasium, reworking of the locker rooms and coaches’ offices, and a complete renovation and addition to the main lobby area.

An estimated $8,000,000 will be spent constructing the additions, according to the permit application.

The project’s plans indicate the middle school’s expansion would be completed by July 2016.
