Sankranti, the new fast-casual Indian restaurant from Srinivasa “Nimms” Nimmagadda, opened Saturday, Jan. 29, 2022, for delivery only with dine-in and take-out service expected in a few weeks, according to a press release this week.
The Dunwoody restaurant, at 237 Perimeter Center Parkway NE in the State Farm building, aims to make Indian favorites like kathi rolls (burritos), curry bowls, and kabobs “accessible and affordable in a quick-service setting.”
“We can’t wait to share our authentic cuisine with the Dunwoody community in a convenient and efficient manner,” Nimmagadda, who also owns a fine dining Indian restaurant and banquet hall (also called Sankranti) in Johns Creek, said. “After we operate as delivery-only for a few weeks, we will welcome guests into our dining room. Details on our grand opening will be announced soon.”
Sankranti (pronounced sum-kraanthi, which means “positive change” in Sanskrit) features a diverse menu of delicious, health-conscious offerings representing both the northern and southern regions of India, with a variety of curry bowls, kathi rolls, pulao, kabobs, samosas, salads, and desserts.
Guests place orders at the counter and build their meals like at other fast-casual restaurants such as Chipotle or Panda Express; however, Sankranti’s menu options are more health-conscious than most fast-casual menus. When building meals, guests can choose from proteins like tikka chicken, malai chicken, or lamb, as well as vegetarian options like paneer tikka masala.
The 1,700 square-foot restaurant features an open kitchen, seating for 30 guests at high-top tables indoors, and outdoor seating for an additional 30, and is the first location of what Nimmagadda envisions as a national franchise.
“Our goal is to take Indian cuisine into the mainstream. We want to make Sankranti a household name, and we strongly believe we have a concept and, most importantly, a menu that guests are going to love,” he said.
