A new Marshalls will replace the Barnes & Noble store at 1217 Caroline Street in Edgewood, according to plans filed Thursday with the City of Atlanta. The construction cost for the 24,000 square-foot location is projected at $1,650,000, according to the building permit.

Arnold Construction Company and the architect firm MacDesign Group, LLC, will be in charge of converting the space for the retail giant. The redevelopment plans include interior renovation, storefront modifications, and changes to the roof and loading station.

The North American Development Group, which owns the building, did not renew Barnes & Noble’s lease, according to a Facebook post made by the 1217 Caroline Street location in late February.

“It has truly been our honor to share with you our favorite book recommendations for the last 17 years and it is our great regret to now share with you that we will be closing this Barnes & Noble bookstore on Sunday, April 3, 2022,” read the post.

Per the post, they are shooting to remain in the Edgewood area, and have asked people to send tips to [email protected] with Edgewood Retail District in the subject line.

  • This is such a huge loss. My partner and I have been visiting this location for well over a decade. I really hope they are able to remain in the community.
