A project planned on the edge of Piedmont Park could include a new barbecue restaurant.

According to an agenda from the Midtown Alliance, two buildings along Piedmont Avenue are set for a renovation. The project is dubbed “12th & Everything” and is set to be be reviewed by planners at a Sept. 13 meeting of the Midtown Development Review Committee.

One of the buildings houses Skate Escape, a roller skate and bike shop that’s been around since 1979. The building would be expanded by 940 square feet for a new 2,315-square-foot restaurant with a canopied rooftop and outdoor patio for dining, according to the agenda from the Midtown Alliance.

Stephen Franklin of DAS BBQ is listed as one of the applicants on the proposal. Franklin did not immediately return a phone call and text on Friday seeking more information about the project.

DAS BBQ currently operates on Collier Road and on Memorial Drive, according to its website

The 12th & Everything project would also renovate the building adjacent to Skate Escape, which has long sat vacant. That building would be remade into a nearly 1,500-square-foot retail and conference space.

“The area between the buildings will be partially covered by a new translucent canopy connected to each rooftop,” says the agenda from Midtown Alliance. Significant hardscape and landscaping improvements are also planned.
