The theatre company is moving forward with its relocation.

Dad’s Garage is moving forward with relocation plans to space currently operating as the Atlanta Metropolitan Church, at 569 Ezzard Street SE in Old Fourth Ward.

The theatre company this week submitted a building permit application to City of Atlanta to convert the existing church into Dad’s Garage, including the construction of a stage and “seating riser,” as well as the reinforcement of roof trusses for lighting.

An estimated $300,000 will be spent converting the 5,857-square-foot church into the theatre company known for its improv shows.

“We’re lucky that the church is in such great shape, so it doesn’t actually require a ton of renovation,” according to House of Dad’s, a fundraising website for the theatre (Dad’s is taking donations here.)

“The biggest transformation will happen upstairs in the sanctuary so we can convert the space into our main stage performance space. We love the blood-red upholstery and trippy stained glass, but we need a more neutral environment to perform in.”

Atlanta Metropolitan has a lease through 2016, according to an FAQ on the Dad’s website.

Dad’s will take over the space in mid-2016 when the Church’s lease expires. In the interim, Dad’s is performing out of 7 Stages Theatre at 1105 Euclid Avenue.
