According to a recently submitted on-sale beer and wine license application, Marufuku Ramen, an “authentic Hakata-style Tonkotsu ramen restaurant” chain, is opening a new Bay Area location.

Coming to 1630 Cypress Street in Walnut Creek, the eatery will land near establishments such as Melo’s Italian Table, Panama Bay Coffee, and Torsap Thai Kitchen.

Restaurant Representative Tatsuya Tanaka tells What Now San Francisco, “We’ve always thought that in Walnut Creek, ramen is actually underserved. We thought it would be great to open there and serve this part of the community in the East Bay.”

For readers who are unfamiliar with the San Jose-based business, Marufuku Ramen currently has locations in San Francisco, Oakland, Redwood City, Irvine, and Del Mar. Outside of California, there are outposts in Frisco and Austin, Texas, and New York.

The restaurant is known for Hakata-style ramen, a type of ramen originally from the Hakata district of Fukuoka, that has a creamy broth made from pork bones and is served with thin noodles. In addition to a wide variety of ramen options, the restaurant serves rice bowls and small bites, wine, Japanese and craft beer, and sake.

“We plan to open sometime in early to mid-August for this location,” Tanaka concludes. Stay tuned for updates.
