According to SF Eater, Lilah, a Marina bar known for its low-proof and non-alcoholic cocktail menu, is shuttering. Its owners, however, are planning to debut a new concept in its place.
Coming to 2336 Chestnut Street — near establishments such as A16, Causwells, and Mamanoko — Super Mensch will be “a restaurant and cocktail bar inspired by the soul and nostalgia of iconic Jewish delis from New York and New Jersey,” per a recent press release.
Chef Adam Rosenblum, who is also an owner of Causwells, says in the press statement that the menu of “deli classics” — that will include items such as smoked pastrami, Reubens on rye, matzah ball soup, latkes, and chocolate cake — “draws from the comfort food he grew up eating.”
The cocktail menu, headed by Elmer Mejicanos, will boast “cocktails that translate NYC deli flavors like egg cream, celery soda, and black-and-white cookies into drink form,” according to Eater.
“We’re proud of what we built with Lilah, but when the chance to get a full liquor license presented itself, we couldn’t pass it up. We’ve dreamed of doing a Jewish American concept and now feels like the right time,” Mejicanos shares in the press release.
Super Mensch is slated to open in July 2025. Stay tuned for updates.
