The San Francisco Public Health Department visited Saap Ver on Thursday afternoon for a routine inspection. Inspector noticed some violations that qualified the business for immediate closure.
At the time of the inspection, the restaurant’s Person In Charge was revealed to have a food manager certificate valid through October 28, 2028. A placard was placed on the facility, as per the report, that cannot be demounted or obstructed and can only be removed by a department inspector.
Violations Found at the Restaurant
The main reason for closure was rodent infestation. Inspectors discovered dead mice in traps in the storage and bar sections. Mouse droppings were spotted on floors and food serving containers such as cups, plates, and take-out boxes.
Food safety violations involved incorrectly cooling the curry soup at 160°F under cover. The soup was prepared at 11 AM but was not quickly cooled according to safe protocols. Residue buildup in the ice machine needed to be cleaned right away.
The problems escalated due to maintenance issues with the equipment. The bar refrigerator was operating at unsafe temperatures of 50°F instead of 41°F or below. The inspectors found a clogged floor sink with backed-up water and drain lines improperly installed, causing water to pool on the floors.
Follow-Up Requirements
The eatery will be required to get rid of all traces of rodents and deep clean contaminated areas with a bleach solution. Management was advised to contact pest control services immediately and increase monitoring efforts.
All food safety procedures must be addressed before reopening. They include correct cooling procedures for hot foods and deep cleaning ice machines. Equipment issues must be addressed, and damaged coolers need to be replaced or repaired.
The facility must fix the entire plumbing system, including the clogged floor sink and defective drain lines. The restaurant cannot reopen until it gets a passing reinspection. The owner has 15 days to appeal to contest the shutdown.
Saap Ver restaurant will remain closed until all the health violations are fixed and a re-inspection verifies compliance with the rules of the health code. The San Francisco Department of Public Health has not yet mentioned the re-inspection date.
