Popular Ice Cream Brand Recalled Over Potential Plastic Contamination

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced the recall of thousands of containers of ice cream and yogurt products manufactured by Wells Enterprises, Inc. The company initiated the recall following reports of potential plastic contamination.

18,000 Containers of Ice-Cream and Frozen Yogurt Recalled

A recall has been issued for 11,649 containers of ice cream across 20 flavors, as well as 6,217 containers of frozen yogurt across 2 flavors. All the products were packaged in 3-gallon tubs and sold under various brands owned by Wells Enterprises.

The ice cream flavors included Rocky Road, Mocha Almond, Peanut Butter ‘N Fudge, Scooper Hero, varieties of Vanilla, and others. The use-by dates of the ice cream products range between 3/28/26 and 10/17/26.

For the frozen yogurt products recalled, the flavors were vanilla and Planet Smoothie ZSA vanilla. The use-by dates are 9/30/26 and 04/01/26, respectively.

The FDA has classified the recall as “Class II”, which is defined as “a situation in which use of or exposure to a violative product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote.”

How to Identify Recalled Products?

Consumers can reference the FDA announcement for full product identification details. They can refer to the name of the flavor of ice cream or frozen yogurt, and then cross-check the respective JET code, LOT numbers, and the “BEST IF USED BY” date.

What to Do With the Contaminated Product?

Any consumers who may be in possession of the contaminated product should not open or consume it. They must safely dispose of the product or return it to the place of purchase for a refund.

Consumers should also follow any guidance provided by the manufacturer or the FDA. Anyone who has consumed the product should monitor for symptoms. In case any symptoms arise, contact a healthcare provider immediately.

Wells Enterprises has not issued a press release explaining the cause of the contamination. The products were distributed through 103 distribution centers across the country. The company initiated the recall on April 25, 2025, and the center classification was done on May 14, 2025.
