Smash Buddies is leveling up. What started as a humble food truck in summer 2023 has quickly evolved into one of the Brewery District’s go-to spots for burgers—and now, it’s adding a bar to the mix. Co-founders and military veterans Kole Nuehs and Jared France have officially announced the opening of The Beat, a brand-new bar connected to their brick-and-mortar restaurant at 460 S. Front St.

Set to open Tuesday, The Beat is housed in a 1,200-square-foot space formerly occupied by The Speakeasy, which recently moved down the street. France and Nuehs took over the location earlier this month and made light cosmetic updates, capitalizing on the fully equipped bar that was already in place.

The name The Beat reflects the duo’s vision to help breathe new life into the Brewery District and bring energy back to the neighborhood—becoming, as France put it, “the heartbeat” of the area.

Guests can expect a relaxed vibe with a full drink menu that includes beer, wine, cocktails, and shots. One standout? Hoster Beer, a local favorite with deep roots in the Brewery District’s brewing history.
