Chilacates is spicing things up in Dorchester.

The local Mexican street food chain is planning a new outpost called Chilacates Cantina within the Dot Block development at 1211 Dorchester Ave, reports Boston Restaurant Talk. According to a licensing board hearing page, the proposed 3,200-square-foot eatery would seat 48 patrons in the dining areas, with an additional 17 seats at the bar, and would stay open until 1 a.m.

Chilacates is celebrated for its broad menu brimming with tacos, burritos, quesadillas, enchiladas, nachos, tortas, brunch items, house-made desserts, and refreshing Mexican drinks like horchata.

While some of Chilacates’ existing locations serve alcohol, the addition of the word “Cantina” in the name hints at an expanded focus on drinks—potentially making this spot as much about margaritas and mezcal as it is about tacos and tortas.

If approved, the Dot Block cantina would join a growing list of already established Chilacates locations in Jamaica Plain, Boston’s West End, the South End, Mission Hill, Roslindale, South Boston, Brookline’s Coolidge Corner, Cambridge’s Central SquareEast Cambridge, and Chestnut Hill, as well as an upcoming Quincy outpost.

Stay tuned for updates as the cantina concept moves through the approval process.
